Google PageRank is the importance or popularity score that Google assigns to your website depending on how it sees it. PageRank will be assigned to every page on your website and not just your main index page. For technical people looking for a better understanding you could visit the PageRank Wikipedia Page

Google PageRank will not directly affect your actual rankings in the search engine, but it will however set a trend… E.g the higher PageRank pages will generally appear higher in the search rankings. However this is not always true. It is updated about every 3-4 months. It can be a useful tool to see if Google has realised your SEO efforts.

PageRank is firstly calculated at your main index page, moves on to your secondary folders… categories e.t.c and then your tertiary folders… articles or products. It is then spread out accordingly due to how important Google sees your website to be. This will depend on the amount of incoming links your page has, it’s on page optimization and the usefulness of your content.

If your site has an article on your home page and then the same article 2 folders deep. The home page will inherit the PageRank of the other article that is two folders deep. This is because.. as I mentioned earlier. Google will start from the top down. Think of it as a pyramid. Try not to use duplicate content where you can.

The best way to get PageRank throughout your pages is to pick one or two keywords for each individual page of your site. You should then include this keyword in your title tag, in your meta tags, in your heading tag and a couple of times throughout the article. If your content is good enough then people will eventually find it and link to it.

PageRank is desired by all webmasters. It shows that they have acheived in putting there website forward in the right direction. Google PageRank does not directly effect your SERP (Search engine results page), but you will have a good SERP if you have a good high PageRank. Webmasters trust other websites if they notice they have a good PageRank on there toolbar. This is because if Google values there page enough to give it good PageRank then why shouldn’t you.

One way links are most important. These will rocket your PageRank. It is beleived that over 90% of the PageRank system is calculated by good quality one way links that point to your website.

Content is king when looking to acheive one way links. Write as many articles as you can, they must all be unique and add value to your website. Write articles for article directories and include a link to your site. The more articles that are used on other peoples sites the better your pagerank will become.

Better still if the articles you write get links to them, then your links value will increase. You will have lots of good PageRank links pointing to your website which will shoot it up the rankings and hopefully giving you a good PageRank too.

The task to improve your PageRank is that desired by all webmasters. In theory improving your PageRank will help you rank better in Google search engine. PageRank is a good way of determining the quantity and quality of inbound links to any website, it is calculated by Googles secret algorithm, but is thought that it is heavily reliant on backlinks. It is measured using the Google toolbar, which allows you to measure the PageRank of any website that you are on.

Many people there is only one way to improve your PageRank, this is to get as many links to your website as you possibly can. This is WRONG! Google weighs links depending on it’s position on the page, it’s keyword relevancy and the PageRank of the page it is on. For example one PageRank 8 website that links to your site, may be as valuable as 100 links to your site with a PageRank of 1.

The best way to improve your PageRank is to make sure your content is good, this way you will get organic backlinks that search engines will love. Also you should make sure your website is designed correctly and functions properly so it doesn’t get penalised for bad code.

Stay away from nofollow commenting, this is when you comment on posts, include your link, but more often than not, these links will have rel=”nofollow” added to the “a” tag in the source code. This doest not contribute to your PageRank and Google could penalise you for spamming.

Content is king! the best way to increase links to your site in my opinion is definately good content. So make sure your content is good and try to get links by emailing webmasters. Try to only get links where you can on pages with PageRank 3 or higher. This will help you improve pagerank. Also remember PageRank is updated every 3 months or so, so don’t be upset if your Pages aren’t improved straight away from your link building efforts.

People all over the world are noticing the grey color of there Google PageRank toolbar. Is this the case for you? If it is then you should seek advice if you are not familiar with SEO practices.

It is my beleif that Google PageRank isn’t dead, I just think that peoples PageRank is altering because of Google’s ever changing ranking algorithm. If they change there algorithm to focus on more “link structure” for example, this may improve or make your websites pagerank worse.

It is also a beleif that Google has realised that its previous system of ranking a page by how many links it had pointing to it was poor. Rumors have been going around that Google has changed its algorithm to take into account the relevance of the content and site structure to the search term.

Don’t worry too much about your Google PageRank as it does not direct your websites rankings directly, e.g : if your site went from a PageRank 1 to a PageRank 2 over night then it is unlikely that it will shoot up in the search rankings.
